With the increasing prevalence of data breaches and cyber threats, ensuring your communications remain secure is crucial. Privatenoter is an easy-to-use messaging application that simplifies sending encrypted messages. It’s an excellent option for beginners looking to protect their conversations.

Download and install privatenoter

The first step to sending encrypted messages with Privatenoter is downloading and installing the app on your device. Privatenoter is available for both iOS and Android devices, as well as desktop computers. Visit the app store on your device or the official Privatenoter website and follow the installation instructions.

Create your privatenoter account

Once you have installed the app, open it and click the “Sign Up” button. You’ll be prompted to create a new account by providing a username and password. Choose a robust and unique password to ensure the security of your account. Privatenoter does not require you to provide personal information, such as your phone number or email address, making it a privacy-focused option.

Add contacts

To send encrypted messages, you must add contacts to your private note account. You do this by clicking on the “Contacts” tab within the app and selecting “Add Contact.” If your friends and family are already using Privatenoter, you search for them by their username. Alternatively, you can invite them to join the app by sending them an invitation link. Once your contacts accept your request or join Privatenoter, you can start communicating securely.

Start a new conversation

To initiate a new conversation, click the “Chats” tab and select the “New Chat” button. Choose the contact you wish to message from your list of contacts. You’ll be taken to a new chat window where you can start typing your message. Privatenoter automatically encrypts your messages as you type, ensuring that only the intended recipient can read them.

Send your encrypted message

Your encrypted message will be delivered to your recipient’s device. They will need to use Privatenoter to decrypt and read the message. The app automatically handles the encryption and decryption, so you don’t need to worry about complex technical details. Your conversation is now secure, and no one else can access its contents.

Customize your privacy settings

Privatenoter offers additional privacy features that you can customise according to your preferences. For example, you can set your messages to self-destruct after a specified period, ensuring they don’t remain on the recipient’s device indefinitely. To access these settings, click on the three-dot menu icon within a chat and select “Chat Settings.” From there, you enable features like self-destructing messages and set the desired time interval.

Verify your contact’s identity

To ensure that you communicate with the intended person and not an imposter, Privatenoter provides a feature called “Safety Numbers.” Each conversation has a unique set of safety numbers that you use to verify your contact’s identity. To access the safety numbers, click on your contact’s name within the chat and select “View Safety Numbers.” Compare the numbers displayed on your screen with those on your contact’s device. If they match, you are confident you’re securely communicating with the right person.
